How it works

No sign-up, no account. Open the app and search.

  1. Open the map

If you allow it, SpotyMap starts from where you are and shows you what's nearby.

  2. Choose what you need

A drinking fountain, a toilet, a hoop: pick a category and the map shows only that.

  3. Tap the pin and go

See how far it is, open it in Google Maps for directions or share it with a friend.

Not just around you

Explore any place

Planning a trip? Search for a city or a country, or just move the map, and see what's mapped in the area.

Roll the dice

The surprise spot takes you to a random place in the world: maybe a waterfall in Iceland or a monumental tree in Japan. You can choose the category, the continent or the country.

Save your places

Heart the pins you like and group them into lists, so you can find them again when you need them.

The more you use the app, the higher your explorer level: you unlock a wider search radius, satellite view and other features.

Data from people like you

SpotyMap's places come from OpenStreetMap, the free map of the world built by millions of volunteers. Every point you see was added by someone, and anyone can fix it.

Something missing? Add it yourself

If you know a drinking fountain or a court that isn't there, you can add it to OpenStreetMap. The easiest way is StreetComplete, an app that works like a game: you answer simple questions about the places around you.

Frequently asked questions

How much does SpotyMap cost?

Nothing: you can download and use the app without paying.

Are the places always open and usable?

That's not guaranteed. The data comes from OpenStreetMap, where volunteers enter it: a mapped place may be closed, broken, paid, private or gone. Always check on site before using it, especially whether the water is drinkable.

Can I tell if a place is wheelchair accessible?

Not yet: SpotyMap doesn't show accessibility for people with disabilities or reduced mobility, because this information is often missing or unreliable in OpenStreetMap.

Why are there few places in some areas?

It depends on how much volunteers have mapped that area: in some cities OpenStreetMap is very detailed, in others less so. If you know a place that's missing, you can add it yourself.

Why do some territories have no flag?

For territories whose status is disputed, SpotyMap shows a neutral geographic name and the 🌐 symbol instead of a flag. The app is meant to help you find your way and takes no position on borders or sovereignty.

Do I need an internet connection?

The places are already inside the app, so you can find them even with a weak signal. The background map, however, loads from the internet.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There's no sign-up: saved places and settings stay on your phone.

What does SpotyMap do with my location?

It only uses it on your phone, to show you what's nearby and how far it is. It isn't sent to us. Details are in the privacy policy.

I found a wrong place or one that no longer exists

The data comes from OpenStreetMap: you can fix it there, and the fix will reach SpotyMap with the next data update. In the app settings you'll find a step-by-step guide.
