How we counted

We counted the places in the “Drinking fountains” category in the SpotyMap database, which comes from OpenStreetMap (data from 21 October 2026), within a 5 km circle around the centre of each city (78.5 km²). The ranking includes cities with at least 250,000 inhabitants and capitals (for Italy, also cities with at least 50,000 inhabitants). If a city's centre falls inside the circle of another city already in the ranking, it isn't counted twice.

These numbers show how many places have been mapped on OpenStreetMap, not how many really exist: in some cities volunteers have mapped almost everything, in others a lot is still missing. If you know a place that isn't there, you can add it to OpenStreetMap: it will show up in SpotyMap after the next data update.
